I love to capture family photography outside for two main reasons.
Firstly, I love, love, love using natural light, you can’t beat it! I love the soft glow from natural light that shows up in photographs. If we can shoot in Golden Hour (around an hour or two before the sun sets) even better. This golden glow in the background will give you the most beautiful photos to display around your home.
Secondly, shooting family photography outside is lovely and relaxed, and this is exactly how you want to feel on your photo shoot. If you and your children are relaxed, you will have a great time and enjoy it. As your photographer of course I want you to relax, have fun and enjoy the family photo experience! To really bring your children out of their shell and show their true personalities, tickle them, hug them, kiss them, chase them, play with them! Capturing heartfelt, genuine moments between families is a joy. I love looking back on such moments myself of my own family. Being outside means we can explore and wander, children see magic everywhere and this comes alive in woods, parks and gardens.
Here is one of my favourite shoots from last year photographed at Campbridge Pond in Livingston, West Lothian (one of my absolute favourite places for shoots and a real hidden gem!). I loved how relaxed this family are in their photos, the weather was just perfect with a little sun glowing through the trees, and look at that cheeky, mischievous face on gorgeous, little Imogen. SOOO CUTE!!
Have a wonderful day!
