As I type this, we are in the midst of darkest January, after a full night of rain followed by another day of pouring rain and then some more again after that. The perfect day for writing and cozying up inside but I am dreaming of brighter days ahead and look forward to lighter nights tapering in, and the soft, glow of Spring. Thinking of brighter days takes me back to the gorgeous, summery wedding of Felicity and Steven last year.
I was so excited to shoot their wedding after meeting up with them both for a coffee in one of my favourite coffee and cake spots in Edinburgh. Cuckoos bakery if you are wondering. As we chatted, they were both so lovely telling me all about their exciting wedding plans, how they met one another, and their dog (side note: I always want to hear about your dog!)
Fast forward to the big day. As I photographed the bridal details in the morning (I love capturing all the little, individual thoughtful details!) there were so many gorgeous, sweet touches such as cards and jewellery. When the gorgeous, colourful flowers arrived, it was lovely to see Felicity’s eyes light up seeing her wedding vision come together.
Felicity and Steven chose Summerhall in Edinburgh as their wedding venue, for those who don’t know the venue, it’s a very cool and unique setting. Their beautiful, heartfelt wedding ceremony took place in the Main Hall which featured all the grandeur and elegance that is picture-perfect for a wedding. Followed by drinks and canapes out in the courtyard. So perfect and relaxed. Luckily, the Scottish weather was on our side that day!
Capturing romantic just married portraits with these two was a walk in the park. Seriously. We wandered over to The Meadows for lovely 'just married' photos of Felicity and Steven as well as some fun, relaxed shots of the bridal party. This came so naturally to both of them, and you could see how happy they were. Literally both glowing with love.
Their meal and evening celebrations took place in The Dissection Room, a very cool, raw space, ready for you to make your own and bring your wedding vision to life. Felicity had spent so much of her time creating amazing decorations for this room including around one thousand origami birds to really bring the room alive. I loved their table names all themed after classic video games, twinkly fairy lights around the room and beautiful rustic decorations on the table. Pinterest wedding reception dreams come to life.
Moving on to their speeches, I can say wholeheartedly these were some of the nicest and most thoughtful speeches I have heard. The Mother of the Bride spoke beautifully about her daughter and new son-in-law. As the speeches continued you could truly feel the love in the room. All weddings are different, and unique in many ways, but one thing remains the same, the love that fills a room during the speeches. It is a unique day in your life with all of your family and friends together in one place celebrating and hearing how sweet a Groom you really are, and how thoughtful you have been in carefully composing your speech. Only to then be completely roasted by your hilarious Best Man. It always happens.
This wedding had one serious party later on, and a few weeks later Felicity sent me an amazing photo of them at the end of the night celebrating and one thing is for sure they had the BEST DAY EVER!
